Art as Healing: How the little bits can become whole and how that ties into collage fodder; plus a few simple landscapes.

I am always making art of some sort. Most of the art pirces on display in this post were made this past week, except for one oil pastel drawing and the two rubbing template designs which are from the week before. My life is filled with art since, for a living, I am an artContinue reading “Art as Healing: How the little bits can become whole and how that ties into collage fodder; plus a few simple landscapes.”

Collage Fodder Madness: Gelli prints with acrylics, distress inks, and alcohol drops; and collage and watercolor paintings meant to be ripped!

I made more collage fodder this past week, all kinds!! On Wednesday, I got inspired by watching a Robyn Mcclendon video on using alcohol with her gelli plates. So I tried it, of course. It was super fun! I tried this on a variety of different papers, including parchment paper, deli paper, watercolor paper, andContinue reading “Collage Fodder Madness: Gelli prints with acrylics, distress inks, and alcohol drops; and collage and watercolor paintings meant to be ripped!”

Experimenting with distressed backgrounds and tags for art journaling.

Recently, I ordered some distressed oxide stamps and ink from Tim Holtz, some gloss sprays from Dina Wakley, and some Dylusion sprays. Yesterday and today, I have been experimenting with how to use them. The examples below are the results. This is the first time I have ever tried them. I am happy with theContinue reading “Experimenting with distressed backgrounds and tags for art journaling.”

Art Process: Swift Change, Blue Break, and Collage Fodder Madness.

Art making mania: Well, I seem to be on a roll with the art-making. I’m just in art obsessed mode. I never run out of ideas or new things I want to try! Collage Fodder for 02.20.23

I’ve been pushing myself to get in my art studio to make just a little art no matter how tired I am. I usually get home late, and am exhausted. Today, I got home around 8:30pm. I decided I should make collage fodder. In fact, I did make a little art earlier in the day,Continue reading “Collage Fodder for 02.20.23”

Faux Rice Paper

I learned a new technique to make faux rice paper. It’s pretty cool. This is my first ever attempt to make it!! It can be used as a journal cover or as collage fodder that you incorporate into a different art piece. It’s made with a mixture of Elmer’s glue and water (half and half)Continue reading “Faux Rice Paper”

Art process: Layers and pours; Part 2 of Golden Healing.

I worked on two paintings tonight. These paintings are the ones I worked on a few days ago. You can see an earlier version here. The one below is my “repaired canvas” from the other day. I sense that the word “repair” might be part of its message when it’s all done. I covered theContinue reading “Art process: Layers and pours; Part 2 of Golden Healing.”

I can’t stop making art…Part 1 of paintings Golden Healing and Restoration.

Art making…it’s my coping skill. I create because I’m driven. Today, I talked about some of my sexual trauma that occurred in the military. There was a date rape where I lost my virginity and a sexually abusive relationship, I stayed in for 2.5 years, where I was raped in a violent way several times.Continue reading “I can’t stop making art…Part 1 of paintings Golden Healing and Restoration.”

Swirl Frenzy: Art Process

This is a mixed media art piece made on watercolor paper. It is made out of oil pastels and different kinds of paper, such as tissue paper, decorative papers, fiber papers, etc. The title is called Swirl Frenzy. I started with the oil pastel drawing, making two layers of color, which I scratched into, aContinue reading “Swirl Frenzy: Art Process”

Art process: Explaining the progression of my “Journey” art piece.

This is a mixed media art piece. The final image is digital, but here you can see some of the progression. In the first image, you see an oil pastel drawing with one piece of fiber paper with stars to the left. I layered the oil pastels and then scratched into it to created thisContinue reading “Art process: Explaining the progression of my “Journey” art piece.”
